Iron ore pellets are small, spherical agglomerates of iron ore fines mixed with binders such as bentonite and heated in a furnace to harden. They typically measure 8mm to 16mm in diameter and have a high iron content (Fe 62%–67%), making them a superior raw material for steel production. These pellets are widely used in blast furnaces and direct reduction processes to produce iron and steel.
Production Process:
• Iron Ore Fines Preparation: Fine iron ore is ground and mixed with binders.
• Pellet Formation: The mixture is rolled into small balls (pellets).
• Induration (Heating): The pellets are hardened at high temperatures (1300–1350°C) in a furnace.
• Cooling & Transport: The hardened pellets are cooled and transported for steel production.
